Rotgender is a xenogender identity with multiple similar definitions:

One's gender is related to rotting, corpses and gore.^[1]
One's gender feels as if it (or its user) is rotting, on a physical, metaphysical, emotional, and/or spiritual level.^[2]
One's gender is completely rotting or is rot/mush itself. One feels their gender is just rotted, reeking, sickening, and revolting; however, it one doesn't necessarily feel disgust or uncomfortableness with their own gender. It can also represent mystery, darkness, mischievousness, and pride.^[3]

Rotgender may often be used in combinations with other genders, such as those related to zombies or decay.

History

The first rotgender flag's origins are unknown, but it was created on or before August 28, 2022.^[3]

Rotgender's first existing coining was on September 6, 2022 by Tumblr user m4rsh4ll-l0ves-y0u^[1].

The red, black, and green alternate flag was created by Tumblr user holy----mary on December 28, 2022.^[4]

Rotgender was recoined on May 29, 2025 by Tumblr user solarreddragons with a different meaning.^[2]
