Butch

Butch is a term that is usually used as a form of gender expression. Typically, the term is used to refer to queer women who present in a masculine manner, whether through style or traits. However, some believe that the term goes beyond gender expression.

While the term is primarily used among sapphic women, it is also used by non-binary and genderqueer individuals. The term has been connected to trans identities, some who identified as butch women may go on to identify as trans men or transmasculine.

Another butch symbol was created by Tumblr user The Gender Thieves, along with their Black Butch Community flag; however, their butch symbol is not black-exclusive.
