Transmu
Transmu is an umbrella gender identity for anyone who is both of the following:
- Transmasculine, transmian, and/or transandrous
- AFAB or AFAB-adjacent
It includes (but is not limited to) trans people who are wergender, mingender, male, male-aligned, miaspec, maingender, gendervir, M-gender, and/or mascgender.
It is meant as a more specific equivalent of transmasculine, as the latter term is not AFAB-exclusive. This can be helpful because some may feel their AGAB is useful or necessary information for describing their trans experience, but may not necessarily want to explicitly state it.
It is similar to FTM, however this acronym puts the AGAB first and foremost, and not every transmu individual identifies or is comfortable with FTM as a label.
It is inclusive of intersex people who may not have been explicitly assigned female at birth but feel they fall under the umbrella of an FTM (or similar) experience, hence “AFAB-adjacent.”
Transmu can also be used as a gender identity by itself, such as in the case that someone knows they are FTM or similar but does not know or want to specify their specific gender.
The MTF/AMAB transfeminine equivalent is transphi.[1]
