This is a template documentation subpage for Template:Wayback.
It contains usage information, categories, interlanguage links and other content that is not part of the original template page.

Script error: No such module "Lua banner". Template:Info

{{Wayback }} is intended to simplify the linking process to files at the Internet Archive "Wayback Machine".

Usage

The template is typically used like this:

{{wayback |url=http://example.com |date=20160807231935 |title=My page}}
  • |url= is the original URL, not the Internet Archive URL.
  • |date= is the 14-digit Internet Archive snapshot ID obtained from the Wayback website.
  • |df=n will render the date in MDY format. This is the default.
|df=y will render the date in DMY format.
|df=iso will render in YYYY-MM-DD

For more options, see "Parameters" below.

When to use

The template was originally designed for the ==External links== section, on talk pages and any place except inside a <ref></ref>pair. Over time however the template has also been used within ref pairs if the original citation is not a CS1 citation templates (such as {{Cite web }} and {{Cite news }}). Ideally in such cases, rather than adding the wayback template, the citation should be changed to a CS1 template and the archive link added to |archive-url= and |archive-date=. Bots are not always able to do this conversion and they will sometimes tack-on the wayback template to the end of a non-CS1 citation.

Parameters

{{Wayback |url=}}

{{Wayback |url= |title= |date=}}

{{Wayback |url= |title= |date= |nolink=}}

{{Wayback |url= |title= |date= |nolink= |df=}}

url
The original source URL, not the full link to archive.org
title (optional)
The text displayed for the external link. If this is omitted, a generic 'Archive copy' label will be used.
date (optional, but recommended)
The Internet Archive timestamp ID (YYYYMMDDhhmmss). This can be obtained by looking at full the archive.org URL. If the date is omitted or |date=*, the archive history page will be listed instead. Use the full 4 digits for the year, 2 digits for month, day, hour minute and second. Use leading zeros if necessary, and use a 24-hour clock for the time.
df (optional)
If |df=yes or |df=y then dates will be displayed in DMY format (e.g. 6 April 2026 rather than April 6, 2026)
If |df=iso then dates will be displayed in YYYY-MM-DD format
nolink (optional)
If this argument is present, containing any value or empty, the wikilink for Wayback Machine will not be used (eg. Wayback Machine instead of Wayback Machine).
