Rainbowgender was coined by Tumblr user mogai-guy[2] on February 3, 2019.[3]

The rainbowgender flag and first alternate flag were designed by Tumblr user mogai-guy on February 3, 2019.[3]
The second alternate rainbowgender flag was designed by Reddit user u/Bakueolf[4] on April 27, 2023.[5]
The third and fourth alternate rainbowgender flags were designed by ~🌺Benji💗~ on Discord.[6]
