Proxvir is a gender identity that is strongly connected to malehood, in a way that is different from how men may be connected to malehood. Proxvir is an identity that is separate from other genders, and may be described as a male-aligned gender or a mingender, that is not man-aligned or miaspec, and has no connection to manhood.

The female equivalent of proxvir is juxera.

The opposite spectrums in their malehood (dis)feelings, is nonvir and related.

History

This term was coined by wulgendeur on Tumblr.[1]

Someone who is proxvir may also identify with the term, ''Thirdgender'' due to the fact that this gender is on a plane not connected to the gender binary. It is a whole, single gender, that is male-aligned. This is not to be confused with demiboy, because demiboys tend to have some connection to the binary gender male.

While some feel that it is not outside of the male-female binary, some feel that proxvir and juxera make their own binary off to the side of male and female. Both definitions are valid.

''I personally feel that my gender is Proxvir, because I am androgynous, masc leaning, expression wise. However my gender was a different story. I couldn't find any word other than Aporagender to describe my gender. It was still a masculine gender, but I knew I wasn't a male. Being called a man or a he gives me dysphoria just as bad as she does. I identified with Thirdgender before I found Proxvir. This gender identity is real, because I am real.''

The etymology of the term proxvir is that prox- comes from “proximus”, a Latin adjective meaning 'near', while -vir is from a masculine Latin noun.
