Gender dissonance is a form of cognitive dissonances experienced due to a misalignment of one’s physical sex and one's subconscious sex (the sex one sees themself as)[1] Dissonance differs somewhat from dysphoria, which typically conflates this dissonance (discomfort) regarding one’s sex with the mental stresses that arise from societal pressure to traditionally conform to cultural gender norms.[2]
