Blockgender

Blockgender is a gender identity in which one builds up one's gender identity over time, but once one feels like one has completed one's gender identity, it disappears. It is similar to the video game tetris, in which one builds up blocks only to have them disappear at the end. As one builds onto one's gender with new blocks, they may or may not intentionally or unintentionally leave small blank spaces, which may be gendervoid or agender.

For some but not all blockgender individuals, the whole goal of their gender expression is to build up and clear a gender. Other blockgender individuals try not to clear their genders, and keep stacking them, but eventually are forced to clear some genders to prevent themselves from getting overwhelmed.

Some individuals may choose to change their pronouns as they build up their gender identity, but as with any gender identity, any pronouns can be used.

History

This gender identity was originally coined by Fandom user TetrisGirl to be "a partly-satirical parody of qwer own gender identity," and was named tetrisgender. It was recoined by Fandom user HelenDaMelon on March 2, 2023 to be non-satirical and was renamed 'blockgender'.[2]

Flag

The blockgender flag was designed by Fandom user HelenDaMelon on March 2, 2023.[1] The squares represent the genders that one uses to build up one's gender, before it disappears.
