Sonnegender is a gender identity that can be explained or identified using the sun. Examples include:[1]

  • A gender related to the sun.
  • A gender influenced by the sun or by the placement of the sun in the sky.
  • A gender that is stronger during the day and on sunny days.
  • A gender influenced by a kintype to the sun.
  • A gender related to a sun deity or devotion to one.
  • A gender related to the feeling and warmth of sunshine and/or the feeling of sunbeams on skin.[2]

Common Definitions

Sonnegender can be any of the following:
  • A gender related to the sun.
  • A gender influenced by the sun / by the placement of the sun in the sky.
  • May be stronger during the day and on sunny days.
  • A gender influenced by a kintype to the sun.
  • A gender related to the Greek or Roman God Apollo, or the Greek God *Helios, or the Roman God Sol, or any other sun deity.
  • A gender influenced by one’s devotion to any of the aforementioned gods.
  • A gender that can be otherwise explained or identified using the sun.

The first sonnegender was coined on October 8, 2018 by Tumblr user Neo-Identity.[1] The first alternate flag was coined by an unknown Tumblr user on or before May 21, 2023.[2] The second alternate flag was coined by Fandom user clowniicat.
