Polygenderflux
Polygenderflux[2] is a gender identity which refers to someone who has multiple genders, and whose genders fluctuate in intensity.
"Polygenderflux" combines 'polygender' (experiencing multiple gender identities) with 'genderflux' (a gender identity that varies in intensity over time). It describes someone who experiences a fluctuating or shifting sense of multiple genders, rather than a static, singular identity.
A polygenderflux person may identify with any number and combination of different gender terms at any given time, while the intensity of their resonance within their identified genders fluctuates. Polygenderflux may be used as its stand-alone own gender, or used in tandem alongside the more specific genders the person using it identifies with.
History
Polygenderflux was coined by Lukeskyskater on GenderWiki[2], and was originally coined in a post submitted by Lukeskyskater's tumblr to the now-deactivated blog pride-flags-for-us in June of 2014[1]. As outlined in the original post, the term polygenderflux was created to infuse the terms polygender and genderflux into one, as no other similar terms existed at the time.
Flag Design
Similar to its definition, the original polygenderflux flag was designed by Lukeskyskater on tumblr with the polygender and genderflux flags in mind[1].
The flag was later updated by Lukeskyskater on Gender Wiki on April 3rd, 2025, in order to enhance distinctness between colors, and to add a black stripe. [3]
Color meanings:
Blue: people whose gender is identified as masculine/semi masculine
Black: people experiencing gender fluctuations
Gray: people who are on the agender spectrum
Pastel Yellow: people whose gender outside the binary
Lavender: people who are multigender
Pastel Pink: people whose gender is identified as feminine/semi feminine.
