Braixenic was coined on August 16, 2020, by Tumblr user thepokedexisgay.[1] It was coined a second time under the name "braxenic" on August 22, 2021, by Tumblr user genderstitch.[2] It was coined again a third time as "braixengender" by Tumblr user genderfoxes on February 18, 2022.[3]
