Zerogender is a term for gender or group of genders that are nullified when combined with its or their respective antigender or antigenders, leading to mutual self-destruction, or a similar concept of nullification, and leaving behind a neutral spore. It can also be defined as a clash between one gender and its opposite that condenses into a neutral spore that can germinate in either direction.[1]

The spore can one day germinate or bloom in either direction, either eugender (absolute gender) or ungender, and then return to the spore state to germinate or bloom again in the opposite direction after another period of hibernation.[2]

Zerogender can also relate to the mathematical concepts of positive and negative numbers or otherwise be the dialectical answer to a given gender dichotomy.[3]

History

The term zerogenders was created by Tumblr user neutrois-maverique on March 21, 2018.[4] It was more consistently defined when the first two flags were designed and posted, on June 17, 2018. One flag represented the metaphor of spores, while the other focused more on mathematics.[5]
