New page

A trigger warning, or 'TW', is a small message at the beginning (and sometimes end) of a post warning users of possible disturbing, overstimulating, or otherwise unpleasant content. Here is a list of topics that need a trigger warning when shared on the Gender Wiki.

The words in bold require a sensory warning, or 'SW', instead of a trigger warning. If you don't know whether to add a trigger warning or a sensory warning, you can simply add a content warning, or 'CW'.

* Gore
* Blood
* Creepy or scary imagery/content
* Death
* Violence
* Bad mental health situations
* Bad physical health situations
* All the discriminatory 'ism's (sexism, racism, ableism, etc.)
* All the discriminatory 'phobia's (queerphobia, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, heterophobia, etc.)
* Vomiting/sickness
* Medical procedures/medical tools (especially needles)
* Gross/disturbing imagery/content
* Mentions of genitalia (pictures or descriptions of genitals are not allowed at all, even with a trigger warning)
* Mentions of alcohol, weed, or other addictive substances
* Bullying, manipulation, etc.
* Insects/arachnids
* Bright lights or colors
* Flashing imagery
* More than five words in all capital letters (aka caps)
* "Funky" text (alternating lowercase and uppercase letters)
* Extreme unicode text usage
* Anything else you think might trigger someone or someone's sensory issues. Remember, it’s better to include one if you’re not sure.

Any post with a trigger warning should have 25-35 lines of space between the warning and the triggering content; enough that one would have to scroll to see the triggering content. Additionally, if the triggering content is in a reply to a Discussions post, it should have an equal amount of space at the bottom as well with another trigger warning, in case of someone scrolling up and onto the content.
