The Alibinary System was coined on June 25<sup>th</sup>, 2018 by Nbandproud.<ref name=":0" /> The system originally was based on what kinds of issues one faced because of their gender identity.

TVS was originally meant to represent having those whose identities are doubted, ignored, looked down upon, being alienated from common non-binary depictions, being seen as binary within non-binary spaces, and being treated as a “self hating” and/or “wanting to escape cis/male privilege”.<ref>https://nbandproud.tumblr.com/post/175245926911/different-kinds-of-nonbinary-issues#:~:text=Viabinary%20issues%20are,are%20close%20to.</ref>

Somewhere down the line these definitions changed. It is unclear as to why or how that happened. One can only really assume it may have been misunderstood when added to a wiki somewhere and then those definitions were then adopted by other wikis.
