New page

This template is used to cite print publications such as books, magazines, newspapers, etc. that are released in physical form rather than only published to a website or electronically. Some may be published in print and later archived online, such as online magazine archives of issues released in the 20th century. Please use the template that applies to the first time it was published. For online works, see '''{{t|Cite_web}}'''.

We also have templates for commonly-cited books:
*'''{{t|ABCs}}:''' for {{ABCs}}
*'''{{t|A-Z}}:''' for {{A-Z}}
*'''{{t|QueensEnglish}}:''' for {{QueensEnglish}}

==Usage==
Copy-and-paste the template code into an article's reference note or manually type it out. Title is the only ''required'' parameter. Fill in as many fields as you can and delete/omit any that you don't use.

If typing it, either a space or an underscore may be used to call the template (
<nowiki>Cite print</nowiki>
or
<nowiki>Cite_print</nowiki>
). Spaces between parameters are optional for readability (ex.
<nowiki>{{Cite_print|title=Example|author=First Last}}</nowiki>
versus
<nowiki>{{Cite print |title=Example |author=First Last}}</nowiki>
). The parameters can be put in any order since they will display in the predetermined order regardless.

;Basic form for a book

<nowiki>{{Cite_print |title= |author= |date= |publisher= |isbn=}}</nowiki>

;Basic form for a magazine article

<nowiki>{{Cite_print |titlepart= |author= |title= |number= |date=}}</nowiki>

;All parameters, horizontal format (delete or omit the ones you don't need)

<nowiki>{{Cite_print |title= |version= |number= |titlepart= |author= |contributor= |date= |publisher= |language= |isbn= |issn= |speaker= |quote= |detail= |url=}}</nowiki>

==Parameters==
*'''title''': Name of the whole publication being cited. When citing a single part of a larger work, this would be the name of the entire publication that contains it (ex. the name of the whole book containing the essay, the name of the magazine with the article). Automatically italicized.
*'''version''': If applicable, a specific version of a publication that's been printed multiple times, such as
3rd edition
,
10th anniversary reprint
, etc.
*'''number''': Any specific associated numbers for the title, such as its volume or issue number, e.g.
issue #1
or
vol. 1, no. 2
.
*'''titlepart''': If applicable, the name of a specific ''part'' of a larger publication, such as an essay in an anthology/collection, an article in a magazine, or an entry in an encyclopedia. Do not use this parameter for an entire publication. Automatically surrounded by quotation marks.
*'''author''': Name(s) of individual(s) or organization(s) who wrote the content. A long list of authors can be reduced using ", et al." after the first name. May be wikilinked. Automatically prefaced with the word "by".
*'''contributor''': Name(s) of any significant contributors who aren't the authors, such as editors or translators. Automatically prefaced with the word "with".
*'''date''': Date of publication. For books, only write the year. For periodicals, either use "Month YYYY" when the day is unknown or use [[Wikipedia:ISO 8601|ISO 8601]] YYYY-MM-DD format for a complete date, e.g.
2024-04-28
.
*'''publisher''': Name of the publisher.
*'''language''': Language of the publication (if not in English). Automatically prefaced with the word "in".
*'''isbn''': [[Wikipedia:International Standard Book Number|International Standard Book Number]]. Hit-or-miss whether it works listing multiples, so make sure to preview and test it if you do. Automatically links to [[Special:BookSources]].
*'''issn''': [[Wikipedia:International Standard Serial Number|International Standard Serial Number]]. Isn't linked, as there is no Special page to support it.
*'''speaker''': A quote speaker's name, such as an interview subject or member of a panel.
*'''quote''': Relevant quote from publication. Automatically surrounded by quotation marks.
*'''detail''': Any other details without a dedicated parameter but worth noting.
*'''url''': If applicable, plain URL to a web archive, such as [https://archive.org Archive.org library] or a periodical's own web archive. Automatically rendered as ([https://lgbtqia.fandom.com web archive])
