Kenochoric is an umbrella term that describes gender identities centered around the idea of kenopsia: the forlorn atmosphere of a place that is usually bustling with people, but is now empty and abandoned. These concepts can include the unknown, eerieness, the uncanny valley, obscurity, nostalgia, emptiness or vastness, liminal spaces, nonhumanity, and things that can evoke any or all of those things.

Some examples of why someone might identify as kenochoric include:

*Having a connection with, or simply being, uncanny, "liminal," creepy, or eerie.
*Having a sense that one's identity is otherworldly, not "from here," or unable to be understood by "normal" people or "humanity."
*Having a connection to obscurity as a concept, feeling as though one's identity is obscured, or having a tie to things that obscure other things, like fog, mist, darkness, etc.
*One's identity feeling empty, lost, melancholic, or hollow.
*Having some kind of disconnect, either with your identity, or feeling like one's identity is disconnected from something. This might be genderlessness, gender apathy, feeling like their identity is distorted, etc.
* Having a connection towards, or being, scary, offputting, disturbing, or generally causing fear.
* A connection with the strange, nostalgic, and wistful, or having a general sense of strangeness and/or nostalgia.
*Having an unstable, hard to define/name, or generally off relationship with one's identity. It might feel this way for them user themself, or it may just feel this way to others.
*Having a connection with, or being, something that scares or unsettles oneself.

When something is kenochoric in alignment, its referred to as kenic. The gender-quality of being kenochoric is called kenous/kenoine, and when something is kenochoric-in-nature, its abbreviated to KEIN. The kenic galactian alignment is called voidrian.

Omen, kenore, and chori are aall terms which refer to a kenochoric person (in the same way as man or woman). Hex, is the kenous term for girl or boy. Kenochorim is plural for kenochoric people. "Omenhood" is the equivalent to manhood/womanhood. Kenochord or kenogender is an umbrella term to describe kenochoric genders.

Its important to note that kenochoric is its own, separate category of gender, rather than a subcategory of another such as xenogender, though some xenogenders, aesthetigenders, etc. may fall under the kenochoric umbrella. There is no necessary prerequisite or existing label one must meet in order to be considered a subset of kenochoric, other than in some way having kenochoric traits.

Some optional prefixes and suffixes one might use for kenic terms include: kein, kenic, kenian, koric, korian, chorian, ken, and keno.
History
Kenochoric was coined by Tumblr user kenochoric on November 18, 2020. A Carrd was created by the coiner, which updated consistently with new terms until May 26, 2022.

The first kenochoric flag was created by Tumblr user kenochoric on November 18, 2020, along with the gender's coining. The black stripes represent the void, absence, emptiness, and darkness; dark purple represents a disconnect with gender, obscurity, and difficulty properly defining gender; purple represents vast concepts and places, such as oceans and deep space; and light purple represents liminal spaces, transitional spaces, and the boundary between was was and what is.

The simplified flag was created by the same user; two alternate flags were created on May 26, 2022.
