Clewagender and its flag were coined by Tumblr user shaethecrow on August 20, 2025. On the flag, the color meanings are as follows: black and gray respectively represent a lack of gender and a semi-lack of gender, similar to the [[agender]] flag; seafoam/mint green represents the agender spectrum, as well as [[non-binary]] genders encompassed by it; light blue represents non-traditional genders (such as [[xenogenders]]) that may be represented in an alignment; and lighter grey represents how the strength of the alignment can differ. The overall muted tones represents how the alignments are translucent in the way that they are not the full gender themselves.<ref name=a/>
